How to Use Vinegar for Weight Loss

acvPeople have believed for thousands of years that vinegar and weight loss go hand in hand. Many of us have heard about how taking a little vinegar before a meal will speed up the metabolism and bring down our appetites.

Of course no product alone can be a magical weight loss agent without changes in diet and lifestyles. Keeping that in mind, it can be useful to find out if vinegar can aid weight loss in some way.

Studies on Vinegar and Weight Loss

There have not been too many studies on vinegar and weight loss. However, a 2009 Japanese study on mice reported on WebMD showed that acetic acid (the name vinegar goes by in labs) may reduce body fat development by as much as 10%. Also, if we are to go by the experience of the mice, vinegar does not really reduce appetite, so one part of the home remedy may be a myth.

How Vinegar May Aid Weight Loss

The speculation is that vinegar helps to turn on the genes in our bodies that are responsible for producing certain specialized proteins. These proteins help to burn fats in the body. As a result, fats are not allowed to build up. This prevents weight gain. However we still need more research in this area before we can say for sure that vinegar can help people lose weight.

Why Apple Cider Vinegar?

ACV is often the type of vinegar that people pick over other kinds. This is probably because we know about some of the benefits of ACV from studies. We know, for instance, that ACV can lower the glycemic index of the food that we eat. This means that even diabetics can enjoy meals with ACV knowing that it will balance their blood sugar levels. And we all know that when your blood sugar is taken care of, your body’s ability to lose weight spikes up.

Add to that the fact that ACV can act against candida, and candida sufferers have a craving for sugar and carbs.

So clearly ACV has plenty of benefits and absolutely no side effects. So it certainly cannot harm you to add it to your daily meals as you may already be doing.

How to Include Apple Cider Vinegar in Your Diet for Weight Loss

Always take apple cider vinegar (2 teaspoons) in a glass of water or juice. The vinegar is very acidic and can irritate your throat if taken on its own. Use organic vinegar that is not pasteurized for best effect.

At the same time, it cannot be stressed enough that no such supplement can be a miracle product to vanish all that extra stubborn fat you are carrying. You have to make sure that you are also following a healthy diet – this does not mean fad diets but a wholesome diet of a reasonable daily calorie intake which includes all the essential nutrients that our bodies need. Add to that regular exercise and you should be well on your way to getting to your ideal body weight.
