Weight Loss Retreat: A Different Kind of Spa Vacation

One alternative for losing weight and staying focused on their diet that many people overlook is a weight loss retreat. Going somewhere different, learning new tools and resources for eating healthier and exercising, and being pampered in a spa are three great reasons to try one for your next vacation plans.

Many people struggle with dieting and staying focused on their health at home. With the usual demands of family, work, and other day to day responsibilities, it can be difficult to find the time – or the motivation – to workout and eat right. For many of us it’s much more convenient to go through the drive through of a fast food place than it is to plan out a week of healthy meals. Even finding time to exercise can be difficult, especially if you are juggling work and kids.

Getting somewhere new and different away from all the stresses of regular daily life can be a huge help for getting started on a diet plan and make those first initial steps to changing your lifestyle to a more healthier one for good. Instead of constantly worrying about all of the things going on around you, you can take the time and really focus on yourself.

Another benefit is that you will be able to get the support that you may not get from home. Most places staff nutrition counselors, personal trainers, and schedule activities for you to get to know the other people there with you. Finding support and realizing you are not alone can make a huge impact on whether you succeed in reaching your goals. Making new friends with a common purpose can be a fantastic way of staying motivated to keep working towards your ideal weight.

Depending on which spa resort you choose, you can enjoy the beauty of the beach or the serenity of the mountains. Most places are nestled in popular vacation areas, though they are also available all throughout the world – you may be surprised to find there may even be a few close to you.

The length of a stay at a place devoted to helping you become a healthier and happier you will vary depending on your own budget, how much time you can spend away from home, and what you think will be best for you. Many places offer short stays of a weekend or a week to help you get an idea of what they offer and give you a much needed break from trying to lose weight at home. Other places often go from anywhere from two to four weeks or longer, determined to help you until you’ve gotten much closer to your desired size.

There are all types of different activities at these types of places to cater to just about anyone’s personal style. From white water rafting to morning jogging on the beach, all of these are fun activities that you may not be able to do at home. The best part? Naturally they will help you get the exercise and activity level you need to burn calories.

Meals are also included at many of these retreats as part of their package. You’ll not only learn what you should be eating and how to prepare and make it at home, but also get to enjoy some dishes that are better tasting than anything unhealthy you may have tried before.

The biggest downfall of course to going to a weight loss spa is the cost. While rates and availability will vary depending on the location and facility you choose, the cost can be range anywhere from $3,000-$10,000 per week. Depending on your health insurance plan, you may be able to seek reimbursement for the stay if it qualifies as treatment for mental health or other service. Since health insurance plans vary greatly on what they will and will not cover, it is best to speak to your insurance company directly for more details on what types of weight loss programs are available to you at a low out of pocket cost or discount. Some facilities may also provide group discounts if you are able to gather a large enough of a group of people to book reservations at once through either your work place or another organization you belong to.

If you can’t find the time or don’t have it the budget this year to take a weight loss vacation, you can always try to replicate what you can on your own at home. Speaking to a personal fitness trainer or nutritionist, enrolling in group classes, or just taking a day of time out to really focus only on you and your health can all be less expensive and affordable or free solutions.
