Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and many people are thinking about what they should do for Valentines gifts and Valentines day dates. Naturally, one of the things many people automatically think of is chocolate, heart shaped cookies, and all the other wonderful Valentine’s Day candies available.

However, we all know that all that sugar is not good for you or your diet (or your sweetheart for that matter!) so we’ve put together a few ideas for how to have a sweet sugar free Valentine’s Day that is healthy for both you and your partner.

Here are some healthy Valentines Day Ideas:

1. Sugar Free Chocolate: If you HAVE to have chocolate, sugar free chocolate is the way to go. It is available in most stores (though you may need to check the health sections where diabetic foods are sold) and also online. It doesn’t taste quite as good as the real thing, but if you’re already sugar free, there’s a good chance you won’t even notice the difference.

2. Green Tea Gifts: Green tea has shown for some to be beneficial when trying to lose weight – but most of all it tastes great, even sugar free. You can make up a sweet little tea basket with varieties of tea and mugs with heart shapes on them (usually available inexpensively at party supply stores) or even create your own romantic tea bag labels.

3. Heart Shaped Meals: You can make healthy heart shaped foods without relying on cookies or cakes. How about a whole grain heart shaped pizza or a veggie tray with the veggies arranged in a heart shape or to say the words “I Love You”? You can also serve up a romantic healthy dinner at home in heart shaped bowls.

4. Healthy Food Basket: If you don’t mind being a little cheesy and your partner might appreciate it, you can make a fun and silly healthy food gift basket for your partner. For example, you might include bananas and attach a note to them that says “Because I’m bananas about you!” or a piece of cheese that says “this is the cheesiest way I can think of to say I love you” and some nuts for “I’m nuts about you”. Be creative, it can be fun for the right Valentine.

5. A Romantic Walk Together: Walking is healthy for you, and a romantic walk together with the one you love is a great way to get exercise as well as connect with one another and spend time together.
