Low Carb Appetizers

If you think its impossible to find low carb appetizers, think again. There are many tasty low carb appetizers you can try out that will leave you satisfied and happy - without loading up on a ton of carbs before a meal or during a party. While I don’t recommend a low carb only diet on a full time basis, parties and entertaining can often be a time where you fill up on too many carbs and not enough protein and veggies, so serving low carb appetizers can help you and your guests stay healthier this season.

Here are some of our favorite Low Carb Appetizers:

Shrimp and Cocktail Sauce: Shrimp is relatively easy to prepare and serve - you can often buy a pre-packaged tray of it or you can buy fully cooked frozen shrimp and thaw and serve. When choosing a cocktail sauce, look for the one with the least amount of sugar on the nutrition label.

Cheese Tray: While cheese does have carbs, it does have significant less carbs than a tray of cookies! Serve a wide variety of cheeses, such as pepperjack, cheddar, montery jack, bacon cheese, and other favorites. Cut them into triangles to make them tasty and appetizing to eat even without crackers. You may want to pair them with veggies such as green peppers or even fruit such as apples or grapes. Olives are also great to eat with cheese.

Deviled Eggs: Eggs are full of protein, and can be a great appetizer at a party - they often disappear rather quickly! If making them, use a low fat mayo.

Buffalo Wings: Buffalo wings are another great way to limit your carb intake at a party. You can even order or make boneless skinless buffalo wings and indulge in great flavors such as garlic, mild, or extra spicy for a guilt free low carb appetizer.

Creative Dippers: What’s a party without dip? You can make a variety of dips, such as salsa, cheese dip, or spinach dip. Before reaching for crackers, you can dip other veggies such as cucumbers and carrots or cheese. Nuts also make a nice food to dip!

Mini-Pizza Burgers: This is an easy recipe to make - simply make small hamburger patties, then top with a little tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese for a unique pizza burger.

Pickle Roll Ups: Deli sliced ham is coated with a thin layer of cream cheese and then used to wrap a medium sized pickle. You can then slice the wrapped pickles into individual servings.
