How does the Jenny Craig diet work? You see the commercials on TV and hear all of these rave reviews…but what is it exactly?
The Jenny Craig diet focuses mostly on reduced calories and low fat. The diet includes a combination of pre-packaged foods which you purchase from them directly. The purpose of the pre-packaged foods is that it will help you be able to learn and visualize portion control as well as make it so you do not have to think or worry about preparing and measuring foods.
In some ways, having pre-packaged meals can be a great time saver, but it also does not allow you to decide what foods you eat and understand the why behind you are eating the foods you are. While part of how the Jenny Craig diet works is eventually they will give you the resources to create your own meal plans, you may become dependent on the pre-packaged meals and find that you quickly lose interest or give up when you start making meals on your own.
The foods for the Jenny Craig diet range from the bland to okay to actually pretty good. Many of them are frozen entrees, while snacks or deserts may also be included as part of the diet menu. Eating only frozen entrees is probably not the most healthy of decisions, since especially with vegetables you get the most nutritional benefits when they are fresh. Also, because the meals are pre-packaged, it is also likely you are getting preservatives and other added ingredients that you cannot control.
The Jenny Craig diet also includes instructional videos and workbooks to help you get healthy and lose weight. The use of instructional videos and workbooks on the Jenny Craig diet can be useful for some. Their goal is to teach you how to make good food choices after you finish the Jenny Craig diet and are no longer eating the Jenny Craig prepackaged meals.
The Jenny Craig diet also encourages exercise. They do not require a strict exercise regime or program - but simply start becoming more and more active. Taking the stairs, going for walks, trying out aerobics or cycling. While this is a great way to get started in exercise, if you truly want to see results from a weight loss and fitness program, you will need to make exercising regularly a normal part of your routine. Many people who follow the Jenny Craig diet think it can be successful without exercise. Unfortunately for some this can be a major disappointment.

While they often have ongoing coupons and promotions, the Jenny Craig Diet is not a free diet, since you do need to purchase their Jenny Cuisine meals. It can range anywhere from $60-$100 week depending on which plan and services you decide to take advantage of. This can be quite costly for many, especially since this will likely be an added cost to their regular grocery budget.
This is a basic overview of the Jenny Craig diet. Despite my somewhat critical overview of it, some people who have understood how it works and exercised while on it have seen results.
