Staying healthy and losing weight is hard enough on its own – unfortunately we’re often faced each day with several temptations to lead us down the wrong road of our diet and exercise plan. Here are some common diet busters that might be tempting you to cheat on your diet:
- 1. Family and Friends: The biggest threats to my diet and exercise plan are my family and friends. The kids might give me a hard time about trying to exercise or my hubby might want to eat something unhealthy for dinner or I go to visit someone and they’re offering me sugar loaded drinks and snacks. Since life isn’t much fun without your family and friends, this is one of the hardest diet buster to overcome. Try to incorporate your meal and exercise plans with your family, and if need be bring your own snacks and drinks to share when visiting friends.
2. The Hectic Schedule: It’s tempting to just pop a frozen dinner in the microwave when time is of the essence. To overcome this diet buster, try making as many meals and snacks as you can before hand and store in convenient snack containers or freeze them. If you’ve run out of time to exercise, try to see if there could be ways to get some exercise along with your regular activities. It also really helps to get on a schedule where you regularly exercise each day/week.
3. Eating Out: While restaurants are fun places to visit, most of them are not very diet friendly! Take a look our article on Fast Food Nutrition Facts for ideas on how to make healthy choices while eating out.
4. The Weekend: When you have a day off or are doing something that breaks your normal daily routine, your diet could quickly become a thing of the past. Be sure to watch snacking during the day (eating healthy, sugar-free, low-fat foods and veggies are okay!) and munching out of boredom. Until you’ve been following your diet for a few months, it may be difficult to establish dieting into your weekend plans.
5. Foods That Seem Healthy But Aren’t: This is a common diet buster that many people fail to recognize. Pay careful attention to labels and make sure there are no enriched wheat flours or hidden sugars. Energy bars, granola bars, yogurts, smoothies, and many other things fall into this list. If you have any doubts, reach for something instead that you know doesn’t have any hidden diet busting ingredients.
